About Us

Straight-talking financial planning

Based in the Thames Valley, we are an independently owned financial planning and wealth management practice.

We focus on using life planning to provide you with tailored financial recommendations that fit your individual circumstances. This means helping you to identify your goals and then putting the right financial framework in place to help you get there.

We have seen the dramatic difference this kind of financial planning can make to people’s lives.

You will find we adopt a fresh, innovative approach which differs from the way you have dealt with financial advisers historically.

We are professional, approachable and straight-talking – we cut through all the jargon of pensions, investments, mortgages and protection. In addition, we embrace the use of technology to ensure our systems give you a first class service.

Over 90% of the people we work with have been referred to us by existing clients – a fact we are justly proud of. Our personalised way of working has enabled us to build trusted relationships spanning several generations within families.

We also work in partnership with members of the legal and accountancy professions to give you a complete and seamless service.

The driving force behind all we do is to give you the resources and financial confidence to enjoy your wealth and live a fulfilled life.

Meet the team

Directors

John Francis

Managing Director

After three and a half years in the Royal Navy, John joined a specialist tax planning firm where he studied and achieved the relevant advisory qualifications. He spent five years advising in all areas of financial and wealth planning before setting up Quest in 2008.

John’s speciality is creating holistic solutions for his clients’ immediate needs whilst identifying their future objectives and goals (both personal and financial) through financial planning. This is, in the main, achieved using traditional tax wrappers and investment solutions. The most important part of the job for him is bringing peace of mind and financial understanding to clients when so many things remain complex and uncertain.

The youngest of 5 (with 4 sisters), John has always pushed himself physically and mentally. He has worked hard to achieve the dreams and aspirations he set out at an early age. He likes nature and exploring - recent trips include working on a 4th generation Cowboy Ranch in Montana, kayaking up the Norwegian Fjords and camping in the Canadian Rockies. He has kept bees in the past and plans to do so again in the future.

Ian McKenary

Director

Ian studied Economics at University, which he thoroughly enjoyed. So when it came to joining the big, bad world of gainful employment, he wanted something that would combine this with the social aspect of dealing with people - or certainly something that would suit him more than his summer as a builders’ labourer.

At Quest, Ian likes the emphasis of offering a holistic level of advice rather than a certain product solution. He enjoys helping his clients to reach their goals through financial planning. For him, it’s about being their first port of call when they have a financial question but also about being by their side as they navigate their way through life.

Ian is married to Pia and they have three wonderful children who he says ‘crack him up’ every day. However, running after them is causing the grey hairs to increase daily so he was especially pleased that the photos were in black and white!

Advisers

Ian Moss

Independent Financial Adviser

After university, Ian joined the Nationwide Graduate Trainee Manager Programme. He has worked in finance for thirty years, twenty seven of which have been as an IFA, including ten years at partner level.

Ian was one of the original IFAs to set up Quest Financial Solutions.

As a large number of Ian’s clients are retired or close to retirement, he enjoys helping them to plan their financial transition from employment to retirement in the most tax efficient way. They use him as a sounding board and as someone they can trust to give them an honest opinion.

Ian is married to Sandra who he met at Nationwide and they have two children; Rhiannon is studying Human Biology at Birmingham university and David is studying for his A levels, with the aim of studying Economics at university. The family dog, an overactive Miniature Schnauzer, keeps them all busy. Ian enjoys most sport and he and David are Tottenham Hotspur season ticket holders.

Dan Godfrey

Mortgage Adviser

Having spent 15 years working in the sales industry, Dan decided he needed a change of environment. He wanted to do something that had a real purpose and would enable him to help people in some capacity. Admittedly, he ended up falling into the finance industry in some respects, but he has been with Quest for several years now and has never looked back.

Dan enjoys the social interaction of the job and likes helping people to achieve a goal. He finds it very satisfying helping someone to buy their first property. He sees his role as helping to reduce the stress of the whole process and enabling people to get their dream home.

A keen footballer, Dan unfortunately spends more time watching than playing these days. Golf is rapidly becoming his new passion although he describes his handicap as, frankly, embarrassing. He loves spending time with his family and having an occasional beer with his mates.

Dan is soon to be a dad for the first time this year so is very much looking forward to the challenge ahead, although not so much the lack of sleep!

David Dean

Independent Financial Adviser

David started his career in financial services in 1983 when he spent eight years as an agent with the Prudential. He then moved into Bank Assurance with the Birmingham Midshires Building Society and the Woolwich. Having always enjoyed helping clients plan for their future, he wanted to move away from the banks and into the independent advice field. He has been working as an Independent Financial Adviser for the last 14 years.

David is a holistic adviser but his main area of specialism is Pensions - both individual and in the workplace. He prides himself on giving good, honest advice to his clients, and delivering a service which includes regular contact to discuss the progress of any recommendations put in place.

He has been married for 35 years and has three grown up, married children. His main leisure activities are gardening and visiting the South of France for some rest and relaxation.

Gill Evans

Mortgage Adviser

Gill’s career in banking began when she left school, with the focus shifting to her preferred area of expertise, mortgage and insurance advice, in 1999. An in-depth experience of all aspects of financial services, including mortgage underwriting, served her well when she made the move from high street lender to independent mortgage adviser in 2003.

One of the reasons Gill says she loves her job is that everyone has a different story to tell, so every day brings with it something new. Building long-term relationships along the way, she has helped clients from all walks of life, including some who initially felt they couldn’t be helped, all of which fills her with a great sense of pride.

Gill’s family life is hugely important to her and nothing pleases her more than relaxing with her husband, who shares her love of travelling to new places. She’s also incredibly proud of her three amazing daughters and adorable grandchildren as they establish their own paths in life.

Paraplanners

Catherine Richmond

Paraplanner

After graduating from University with a degree in Actuarial Science, Catherine decided she wanted to continue in the financial services industry, but in a career that was more people orientated. She started in the industry focusing predominantly on mortgages but made the decision to move into full paraplanning as she enjoyed the long-term relationships this allowed with clients and the holistic nature of the advice process. She has worked as a Paraplanner for 5 years and joined Quest in August 2016.

Catherine provides full paraplanning support to the advisers as well as taking a key role in our Investment Philosophy process and the implementation of cash flow planning. She prides herself in being professional and thorough yet approachable, so clients can be confident they are being well looked after.

Outside of work, Catherine enjoys netball – both playing and umpiring. She’s also often to be found walking or hiking out in the countryside but once back, she loves nothing better than curling up, reading or watching a crime drama.

Rachel Lee

Trainee Paraplanner

Having spent the first five years of her career in property, Rachel developed a keen interest in Finance and made the decision to join Quest in 2017.

She quickly made herself an invaluable member of the team with her attention to detail, work ethic, good nature and wicked sense of humour. She really cares about all our clients and always goes the extra mile to ensure they get the best outcome.

She grew up in Buckinghamshire and is lucky to have a very close family, which includes her two young nephews and their adorable German Shepherd, Darcy. Away from the office she loves to cook, play netball and will generally take any chance she can get to travel and visit new places!

Sherri McLain

Paraplanner

When she moved to the UK from the States, Sherri decided to change career from Strategic Planning/Project Management to Financial Services and began work as a financial adviser. She has previously worked for an IFA and a bank, and latterly in compliance before becoming a paraplanner. She joined Quest in 2016.

Sherri specialises in report writing and technical analysis. In particular, she enjoys helping to build financial plans for clients to help them achieve their retirement goals.

Married, with a cat named Barney, Sherri and her husband live in Haddenham and enjoy village life. Her interests include reading, writing and running. She is also known to do a little DIY when she gets the urge.

Gloria Perrottet

Paraplanner

Gloria joined The Equitable Life in 1999, working in telephone sales before moving into a training role. She was part of the HBOS and Lloyds Banking Group acquisitions, undertaking training, project and advice roles. After a two year break from financial services, she joined an IFA firm, working as an administrator before moving into her current Paraplanner role for Quest in 2017.

On a day to day basis, Gloria’s role is to support the advisers in providing clients with information and recommendations regarding their personal financial planning, to ensure that their goals and aspirations are both achievable and on target. She likes to make sure the reports she provides are as simple for the client to understand as possible.

Outside of work, Gloria is a busy mum so when not ferrying the kids around or walking her dog, she enjoys catching up with friends, relaxing with a book or watching a film and if there is cake involved with any of this then even better.

Anna Lester

Office Manager

Anna comes from a varied admin background including business support, estate agency and PA work. Her previous role involved doing research for a Corporate Finance firm in Manchester who dealt with the sale and acquisition of corporate businesses. She started out at Quest as an Administrator in March 2016 and took over from the previous Office Manager when she retired in October 2016.

Naturally, the role of Office Manager involves tasks right across the business. Anna’s job is to ensure the smooth running of the workflow on a day to day basis and to assist with key projects and their delivery to enhance the client experience.

Anna is the oldest of four sisters from Henley-on-Thames. She lived in south Manchester for six and a half years before moving back down south in 2015. Back at home, she loves eating out and socialising with friends and family.

Sandra Moss

Accounts Administrator

Sandra was manager of a Nationwide Retail Support Unit, responsible for authorising all mortgages for Berkshire & Buckinghamshire.

When her husband became a partner in a Nationwide Building Society agency & IFA practice, the retiring partner taught her how to do the accounts which she then did full time. When Quest set up, they asked Sandra if she would take up the same role.

Sandra is married to Ian with two children; Rhiannon is at Birmingham university and David is studying for his A levels at John Hampden grammar school.

Outside of work, Sandra enjoys reading, watching films and walking the family dog.

What our clients say

“Over the last 10 years I have worked with John and Ian, and several other Quest staff on multiple client matters, from complex tax planning to basic mortgage needs.

As well as being really nice people that take time to build relationships with my clients, they impress them too; with their focus, care and skills to the extent that they have a brilliant client retention record. Quest also look after my own financial planning affairs and assisted some of my partners with a commercial property purchase through SIPPs.”

Jonathan Walton, Managing Director – Whitley Stimpson Chartered Accountants

“I have been working with Quest Financial Solutions since their inception 10 years ago. The outstanding level of their expertise, professionalism, communication and service allows me to relax, knowing I can rely on them for the best advice. To me, as both a working partner and a client, they are incomparable in their field and an absolute pleasure to deal with.”

Samantha Bellia, Solicitor – Lightfoots Solicitors

“We have worked with the team at Quest now for many years and have always found them professional, approachable and proactive. We really can relax knowing they have our best interests at heart and have happily recommended them to friends and family.”

Dan & Katie, Oxford

“The help and guidance received from our IFA at Quest for about 10 years now has always been clear and to the point. Importantly, in tricky times, he has always been open about uncertainties and spelled out the cases for and against any action. The performance of our portfolios during this time has been very good, in boom times and, importantly, during the various crises. The responsiveness to questions, and, on occasion, to emergencies, has been instant.”

Peter, Bedfordshire
